Spectral Dusk
January 2nd, 2011 jonas

hey everyone.

it’s been awhile since I’ve been on here because we’ve been sitting quiet, writing new songs, and reading some books. we had a super busy late part of the year touring canada and europe and i just needed to relax for a bit. that being said, we’re refreshed and ready to get back at it. axe to the grindstone, or nose.

we’re heading into the woods in less than a week to make a new record. the record is going to be called “spectral dusk” and it’s going to be a long-player. we’re going to be making the record in a log cabin north of perth, ontario. i was up there last weekend to check it out and split some wood.

DSC_0615we’ve got a bunch of new songs, and a bunch of ideas that will turn into new songs once the north air hits them. there are ten of us heading up there on saturday to work them out. behind the ones and the twos will be spirit guides engineer/producer james bunton again. i’m really excited to work with him on this one. last time we made a record it was in peterborough and toronto and was a fantastic time but this one we’re going about 4 hours away from our homes and it’ll be interesting to see what that does to the recording process.

anyways, because we’ve had a such a great response to keeping a blog going during our travels i’ve decided to try and keep one going throughout the entire recording process and hopefully to show some videos, photos and ideally some sound samples. i’m going to be in good company up there and can’t wait to share more details later this week.

please tune in as we make spectral dusk in the northern woods.

just before i go here i want to say a quick shoutout to some people that really made the year for us last year. thanks to oots and kutufolk for putting out spirit guides and supporting us on our wobbly legs. thanks so much to magicrpm and all the folks at that magazine in france who really made it happen for us over there. thanks to all the press and journalists that covered our ramblings. thanks to everyone that booked shows, came to shows, bought records, and supported us in all those wonderful ways that made our year feel magical. i can’t really say thank you enough. thanks to our booking agents and of course thanks to sylvie and joe and damien and tim and shaun and jake and all the other wonderful people that played in hymns this past year. i was very fortunate to have you at my side. i felt like in 2010 i was living in a dream and i can’t wait to make another record and hit the road again to visit everyone we met and to make new friends.

happy new year.

here we go….
